Nia was brought up in Swansea. She learnt to play the harp when young, participating in local concerts frequently. She became one of the youngest harpists in the Gorsedd of the Bards and the led the harp section in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. She graduated in Music at the City University in London, studying the harp with Sidonie Goossens, before spending a further two years specializing on the harp at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with David Watkins, where she was awarded the Advanced Diploma in Solo Studies, as well as licentiate diplomas with the Guildhall and Trinity Schools of Music.

She worked as a professional harpist in London for fifteen years, playing in orchestras, concerts and recording with famous artists. She was Resident Harpist at the Ritz, May Fair and Hyde Park Hotels, playing for Presidents and Royalty alike. It was pure enjoyment for her to play in shows such as "Beauty and the Beast", "The King and I", "Oliver!" and "Dr. Doolittle" in the West End. Since moving back to Swansea, Nia has enjoyed playing the harp at every kind of special occasion, from weddings across the country to recitals with the Dunvant Male Voice Choir, from concerts at the Brangwyn Hall to functions with artist Annie Lovejoy. She is a successful teacher with pupils traveling from afar to see her. She has become a recording artiste with the Sain record label with her solo CD called "Romanza", produced by Emyr Rhys. In the National Eisteddfod in Swansea in 2006, Nia has been chosen as an Official Accompanist to the Cerdd Dant competitions, as well as in the National Urdd Eisteddfod in Carmarthenshire in 2007.
